Get Organised

Right from the start try to be organised.

You will get so much information that it is easy to be overwhelmed or to make silly mistakes.

When you find relevant information write it down and make sure that you note where you have found it .

There are two reasons for this:- firstly you can find it again later and secondly you can use this later to verify your family tree.

If you find something on the internet write down what you have dound and the internet address or print the page off.

If you see something of interest ie a memorial , headstone, ancestors house or something pertinent use your digital camera to take a picture and then  either print the picture or save the image on your familty history file.

Keep a special folder with papers, notes etc to prevent things being lost.

Have an index or draw a family tree which you complete as you go to make sure that your progress is fresh in your mind and you don't revisit work that you have already completed.
