DNA testing

DNA testing is a new innovation for genealogists.

The basics are that you provide a sample of your DNA by using swan on your mouth.

The sample is then sent to one of the specialist DNA firms who will analyse your DNA from the sample.

The results can then be compared  against other known DNA in their database to maternal and maternal lines.

You can them be informed of your ancient ancestral history by comparing your DNA to DNA groupings found in different parts of the world.

You will also be informed of any close DNA matches that indicate someone else in the database who is a likely to be a relative sharing mutual ancestors

DNA testing can be quite expensive. Even a basic search is likely to cost over £100 but it can provide positive information about your heritage and also provide details of previously unknown members of your extended family.

If you decide to follow this route it is suggested that you research the provider well and pick a provider that has excellent credentials and a large database.
