GRO - Birth, Marriage and Death Records

The History

The General Register Office (GRO) is the Government Agency able to supply copies of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates.

Applications can be made by telephone,fax or online for copies.

Full details of the person concerned are required.

This will normally require an online search ( See BMD) to obtain the name, place and relevant year.

GRO will conduct this search for you but an extra fee will become chargeable.

There is a reasonable fee for this service.

Once accepted a copy of the relevant certificate is provided.

Local officers of the GRO are called Local Registration Offices ( LRO)
