The National Archives contain virtually all of the official information and records made by Government departments including the Armed Services.

A large catalogue indexes the archives which is available online.

Some of the material is now being put online although the amount available is a tiny percentage of that available.

The site contains some really great pages of explanation providing background to the information and advice on researchers.

Warning Note

One word of warning about visiting the National Archives.

There is so much great material it is very easy to be diverted by coming across something of interest.

Be focused on what you want and make sure that you complete your main aim before dipping into other areas otherwise at the end of your visit you will not have the material that you went for.
