Opticians Records

The History

The worshipful Company of Spectable makers has been operational since the 1600's.

The main opticians body was the British Optical Association which was founded in 1895 althopugh there were several other smaller associations.

In 1995 the organisations were amalgamated into the College of Optometrists.

What records can you find?

The best source for the Opticians records is the College of Optometrists who have copies of the British Optical Assocaition yearbooks and other material.

The British Optical Association published year books in 1914, 1927,1930, 1938, 1951 and 1960.

They will conduct free searches although there may be a small charge to pay for photocopying etc.
