Quakers |
|
Quakers have been in existence since about 1650 when a preacher called George Fox began to preach that people could communicate with God without the need of a Minister to act as intermediary. Through the years Quakers were persecuted but persisted in their faith. Quakers meet in buildings which they call Friends Meetings Houses. Birth, Marriage and Death records vary considerably from other churches:- Baptism - No records exist as Quakers do not believe baptism Marriage - Marriage ceremonies are witnessed by the whole congregation Where would you find information about Quakers? The Quakers in the UK have a website although there is little family history content on the website The Quaker Family History Society website offers more information and maintains a library with extensive Quaker material. Online searching is possible showing what Quaker Birth, marriage and Death material is available and where it can be found.
