University Students |
|
The History Until very recently University education was only open to comparatively wealthy families. Because attendance at University was highly valued and mainly administered by academics records of University Alumni over the years are good. The most common profession for University students until the mid 1800's was the Clergy although by the late 1800's, doctors, lawyers and other professionals began to predominate. What records can you find? Each University will maintain its own records. Many University have records of its Alumni on their websites so a visit to the University website may provide the information or a polite E-mail to the University may indicate where the list of alumni are to be found. * In the 1800's and early 1900's several books were publishes listing alumni from the main Universities. A google book search may trace some of these. * Ancestry and other online sites have lists of Alumni from the main universities online which can be searched for a small fee.
